P.E.

Physical Education (P.E.)

At Albemarle Primary School we believe that Physical Education contributes significantly to children’s learning and development across physical, social, emotional and cognitive domains. We have a specialist sports coach who teaches all the children once a week.

Intent:

Physical Education (P.E.) that is experienced in a safe and supportive environment is essential to ensure children attain optimum physical and emotional development as well as good health. We intend to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in developing their life skills and we expect our children to leave Year 6 as competent swimmers. As well as this, we teach children to work in collaboration with others as part of an effective team, the ability to motivate themselves – and others, and understanding fairness and equality of all sport.

Implementation:

PE at Albemarle provides challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities. Pupils participate in two high quality PE lessons each week, covering two different aspects of physical education every half term. There are extra-curricular options for children to develop their confidence, resilience and knowledge to keep themselves mentally healthy. Children attend competitive sporting events within the local area to maintain high levels of teamwork and to be actively involved in life within the community. Fitness days promote the health benefits of regular exercise and healthy eating.

Impact:

We help motivate children to participate in a variety of sports through quality teaching that is engaging and fun. From our lessons, our children learn to take responsibility for their own health and fitness, many of whom enjoy the success of competitive sports. The school values are implemented throughout every PE session. The children are expected to demonstrate these values through working to the best of their ability, as part of a team or independently. We equip our children with the necessary skills and a love for sport. Through this, they will be shown how to live a positive and healthy lifestyle whilst utilising the skills and knowledge acquired through PE.
