In April 2011, the Government introduced the Pupil Premium Grant.
Pupil Premium is s allocated to children from low income families who are known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months by the Local Authority or in foster care and children with parents in the Armed Forces.
From April 2012, it also included pupils who had been registered for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the ‘Ever 6’ FSM).
Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) as they see fit. However, they are held accountable for how they have spent the additional funding to support the achievement of pupils.
Please note: Universal Free School Meals (UFSM) is different to Free School Meals.
UFSM is for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
