At Albemarle, we aim to nurture the children on their path to becoming responsible, reflective, and compassionate individuals who are inspired by learning about themselves and others.
Intent
At Albemarle, our relevant and creative Religious Education curriculum aims to engage children to enquire and explore the many questions about the study of religion and belief. Lessons aim to provide children with an understanding and knowledge, that will prepare them to be caring, open minded members of our multicultural society, and the diverse community in which they live. To promote their personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, we actively celebrate diversity and offer a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children. Our goal is to develop the children’s understanding of cultural diversity so that they are able to respect and understand multiple faiths.
Implementation
Our curriculum follows the Wandsworth Locally Agreed Syllabus for RE. In each year group, the children focus on one religion per half term, see below. This enables children to get a good understanding of the religions throughout their time at Albemarle. We encourage children to be curious with their learning and where possible the lessons are creative and enquiry-based. Our teachers make the learning fun and memorable through using drama, art and group discussion work. Throughout their time at Albemarle, children will visit a range of religious settings to enhance and embed their understanding. Children are encouraged to consider different points of view, and as they move through the key stages, use evidence to support their arguments and recognise the differences that can occur in interpreting religious sources.

Impact
At Albemarle, Religious Education nurtures the children on their path to becoming responsible, reflective, and compassionate individuals, who are inspired by learning about themselves and others. We provide our children with a curriculum that challenges them to learn about and from a range of religious and non-religious values. As a result, the children are equipped to explore the meaning of their own existence and purpose in life, by reflecting on their understanding of family, culture, community, and the diverse world they live in. By the time children leave Albemarle they will have had many opportunities to question, make informed choices and make personal conclusions based on their knowledge and understanding. Thus, preparing each child for the ever- changing world ahead of them.

Parents do have the right to withdraw pupils from RE: if you wish to do this, make an appointment with the head teacher. The school does not support selective withdrawal from RE as we believe children should have an enriched education allowing children to learn from and respect all religions and cultures.
